Star Micronics has announced the launch of its new TSP654II entry-level desktop printer and the TSP654IIBI, the world's first Apple iOS and Android compatible Bluetooth desktop printer with cash drawer support.

Building on the success of the TSP650 series, Star Micronics said the TSP654II takes entry-level data processing to a completely new level. Capable of printing up to 300mm per second, the printer offers outstanding data throughput and represents excellent value for money. A number of accessories are included at purchase as well as a range of additional options including power supply, splash proof cover and display stand for vertical operation. As graphics can be attached to the back of the stand (facing the customer) this provides a low cost vehicle to promote the store’s latest attraction.

With its easy-load ‘Drop-In & Print’ design, the printer has a full or partial cutter, compact footprint and choice of two paper widths 58mm or 80mm. The sheer versatility of this printer is further highlighted by its fast effective two colour output and its ability to print high quality barcodes for coupons or tickets on media up to 85gsm. With standard and 2D barcode support, the TSP654II further benefits from a print resolution of 203dpi and high reliability of 60 million lines combined with Energy Star certification.

Designed for customers who wish to integrate wireless handheld devices into their POS solution, the TSP654IIBI offers compatibility with iOS which is a result of Star’s investment in Apple Inc.’s MFi (Made for iPhone, iPad, iPod) certification. The TSP645IIBI also supports the Bluetooth SPP protocol that allows compatibility with other common operating systems. Its ease of use is highlighted by its ability to simply switch from iOS support to Android etc to allow configuration of the printer and selection of either MFi mode or SPP for all other operating systems.

Annette Tarlton, marketing director at Star Micronics EMEA, said: “The TSP654II and TSP654IIBI offer a low cost out-of-the-box POS printing solution. For users who wish to integrate wireless handheld devices into their POS solution, the TSP654IIBI with cash drawer support is ideal for providing fixed printing capabilities from tablets, smartphones or any handheld device for queue management, event ticketing, retail transactions, restaurant ordering and many more applications.”
