Abstracta® Modular Display System

Abstracta is the innovative modular display and furniture system originally created in Denmark but which is now manufactured in Michigan, USA, by Consort Display Group. Two sizes of Abstracta, 13mm and 19mm tubes can be used to construct most any configuration of store fixture, étagère or wall display that utilizes a 90-degree connection.

Danish architect Poul Cadovius created and perfected the Abstracta tube and connector system in the early 1960’s in Copenhagen. The system was the first of its kind to allow the modular construction of simple and complex structural shapes, quickly and easily. The many awards granted to architect Cadovius and Abstracta include a Gold Medal in Brussels for International Design and The ID Classics Prize in 1992 by the Danish Design Centre.

In the words of one of the ID Classics judges, “Poul Cadovius’ Abstracta System is, both technically and visually, the minimal construction a space framework should be…It can hardly be done more simply, either technically or visually…A design so simple and natural that it is almost not a design. A design classic in the full meaning of the word.”

In 1998, architect Roger Lepley, AIA, president of Consort Corporation acquired the original machinery and dies for the system and the worldwide trademarks from Mr. Cadovius, who turned 96 in September of 2007.
