Hoeft & Wessel launches unique mobile terminal in tablet format

skeye.e-motion – the ideal companion for field services and logistics

Skeye, the Hoeft & Wessel Group’s business division for mobile solutions, has developed a new mobile terminal in tablet format for use in the areas of field services and logistics. With a 5.7” touch screen and coming in at a low weight of under 800 grams, yet built to a robust industrial standard, the new skeye.e-motion has no peer in the market place. The large touch screen not only results in optimum display quality; it also makes for easy operation. Overall, the skeye.e-motion is an extraordinarily handy device that will make the perfect companion for field services staff engaged in mobile order and materials management, for communications between dispatchers and drivers in transport logistics, and for navigation purposes. The high-performance terminal handles online communications using all common wireless technologies, including the mobile telephone network, WLAN and Bluetooth.

Hoeft & Wessel will introduce the skeye.e-motion to the general public in early March at a series of trade fairs: the EuroCIS in Düsseldorf, the LogiMAT in Stuttgart, the CeBIT in Hanover, and the Mobile 10 in London. Software solutions developed for the new device by renowned partner companies will be presented at the same time.

With the skeye.e-motion, businesses will be able to optimise the utilisation rate of service and logistics personnel and make processes run faster overall, and hence be more effective:
the range of tasks handled by the skeye.e-motion includes order management, ordering of materials, navigation, documentation, data recording as well as invoicing directly on the customer’s premises. With the new terminal in tablet format, the entry of data required for invoicing and the transmission of order data can be carried out quickly and easily directly on site. This eliminates the need for subsequent manual, time-consuming data entry at the office for work carried out on site. By placing the skeye.e-motion in the vehicle mounting kit, the screen can also be used for navigation and for displaying images fed from the vehicle’s rear-view camera, in addition to taking care of order management. Apart from the cost saving, the ability to focus only on a single screen also results in greater safety.

The skeye.e-motion features a 5.7” touch screen. A rocker switch for navigating the menu structure and five function keys make for easy operation of the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system. The terminal meets the industry standard for protection against drops of up to 1.20 meters in height, and it conforms to IP 54 for protection against dust and humidity. Via the mobile phone network using GPRS/EDGE (or optionally UMTS), the skeye.e-motion connects to the central IT infrastructure at the company’s headquarters. Other wireless technologies provided are WLAN and Bluetooth. A scan cam or imager can read 1-D and 2-D barcodes as well as take photographs. The GPS module allows continual position-finding and the use of navigation solutions. It also provides flexibility in planning the deployment of personnel. Head office is able to schedule jobs for employees in real time, as well as optimising deployment geographically. In addition to USB and serial connectors, the vehicle mounting kit is also fitted with an input for an external video source to allow rear-view camera systems to be connected. The skeye.e-motion also serves as a mobile phone using the hands-free facility.

With the skeye.e-motion, Hoeft & Wessel AG is further expanding its product range and is consolidating its position as Germany’s leading manufacturer of mobile terminals. The new device in tablet format fills the gap between traditional PDAs and mobile scanners on the one hand, and the larger devices in netbook format on the other.

In the international Auto-ID market, the new device stands out thanks to its particularly format and its robust construction. It meets the special requirements for use in field services and in logistics.

The skeye.e-motion is a further addition to Hoeft & Wessel’s wide range of innovative mobile terminals available to its customers and partners, with various touch screen sizes for use in logistics, field services and in the retail trade.
