New NCR Bar-Code Scanners Offer Industry-Leading Technology

NCR RealScan™ scanners built to maximize operational efficiency and ease of use in a variety of retail environments

Building on the successful launch of the NCR RealScan 78OFX bi-optic scanning platform introduced last year, NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) is extending its family of retail bar-code scanners with the introduction of the NCR RealScan 74OFX and NCR RealScan 84.

The NCR RealScan 74OFX bi-optic scanner/scale features high-performance scanning in a low-profile footprint that makes it ideal for compact checkout stations or seated cashier environments common in some European countries. The NCR RealScan 84 is a single-window scanner offering omni-directional and presentation scanning for mid-sized retailers.

“After receiving an enthusiastic response from retailers worldwide who have embraced the NCR RealScan 78OFX bi-optic scanner, we set out to develop additions to our line of scanners that would lead the industry as best-in-class performers,” said Greg Egan, NCR vice president, Retail Assisted Service Solutions. “Built with ease of use, speed and serviceability in mind, the new NCR RealScan 74OFX and NCR RealScan 84 scanners are equipped with unique, innovative features based on our proven technology.”

High-performance bi-optic technology in a compact footprint
The NCR RealScan 74OFX is the highest performing low-profile bi-optic scanner ever offered by NCR. It features NCR’s exclusive Optical Effects Technology, which creates a scan pattern that is denser than other comparable scanners currently on the market. Because it generates more scan lines at greater lengths than ever before, the NCR RealScan 74OFX offers enhanced performance by reducing the need for users to orient merchandise packages while scanning, and by creating a scan pattern designed to capture and read all bar codes, including difficult-to-read small and truncated bar codes.

The NCR RealScan 74OFX incorporates features that provide significant investment
protection for retailers, including support for simple and fast field upgrades. In addition, it is designed to maximize operational efficiency through serviceability enhancements that improve product availability. The scanner also features support for Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) technology to help retailers reduce shrink.

Intuitive single-window scanning
The NCR RealScan 84 features support for scale and EAS integration, and provides retailers with a flexible omni-directional scanning solution for space-constrained environments. Combined with a new optics package designed to increase first-pass read rates, the NCR RealScan 84 improves productivity and performance for new and experienced cashiers. The new NCR RealScan scanners offer additional features to help make scanning even more user friendly for cashiers and customers. For example, the eye-catching LED Scan Adviser – which serves as a diagnostic tool on top of the scanner –provides visual feedback to the user. This feature is particularly beneficial for new cashiers or self-checkout customers.

The NCR RealScan 74OFX and NCR RealScan 84 will be available through the NCR RealPartner reseller network as well as NCR’s direct sales force.
