TUI Hotels Save Energy with OSRAM

250 TUI partner hotels can optimize their energy costs effective immediately – thanks to OSRAM energy saving lamps

Germany’s leading travel company TUI and lighting manufacturer OSRAM are cooperating to reduce energy consumption in hotels. The 250 TUI partner hotels on the Balearic Island of Mallorca have the opportunity to easily purchase energy-saving lamps from OSRAM. All hotels will thus gradually replace conventional incandescent lamps with energy-saving lamps. This will enable them to reduce their energy costs and do their part for climate protection. TUI offers hotels and all affiliated partner companies a straightforward way of purchasing a wide assortment of energy saving lamps through their own online portal at www.eas-y4tui.com.
OSRAM’s wide range of energy-saving lighting for the hotel sector allows for energy savings of between 30-80% compared to traditional incandescent lamps as well as a significantly longer life cycle. One of the product ranges that is especially attractive for the hotel business and is also offered to TUI partners is HALOGEN ENERGY SAVER. These halogen lamps come in classic incandescent lamp formats such as bulb, candle and spotlight. Because they are equipped with E14 and E27 bases, they can replace traditional incandescent lamps in no time at all. HALOGEN ENERGY SAVER lights are dimmable, they save up to 30% energy, have double the life cycle and give off the same beautiful light as classic incandescent lamps. Low-voltage lamps, such as DECOSTAR® ENERGY SAVER, allow for energy costs savings of up to 65% compared to standard halogen lamps. They are also dimmable which makes them perfectly suited for atmospheric lighting.
DULUX® compact fluorescent lamps are available in many shapes which means they are ideal substitutes for incandescent lamps in most applications. DULUX® has the capacity to reduce energy consumption by up to 80% over comparable incandescent lamps while the product also outlives conventional light sources 15-fold.
OSRAM solutions offer more than just high standards in design and esthetics for the hotel industry. Hotels can also significantly reduce their energy costs and CO2 emissions by using OSRAM products.

Furthermore, using energy-saving lamps puts hotels in the position to accommodate the wishes of an ever growing number of guests who want increased sustainability, even while they are on vacation. At the same time the longer life cycle reduces expenses for replacing energy-saving lamps which in turn has a positive effect on maintenance costs.
The partnership was rolled out in Mallorca; hotels in the German-speaking regions are also given the opportunity to cut energy costs with OSRAM’s support and to easily order the energy-saving lamps. Through its collaboration with OSRAM, TUI reaffirms its cutting-edge role in disciplines such as protection of the environment and sustainability. The sole tourism company to be listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World Subsector Travel & Tourism), TUI AG has once again made the ranking on September 22, 2008. In the Index’s annual review, TUI achieved top grades in the categories of environmental reporting and strategy, climate strategy and biodiversity, among other accomplishments.
“The joint efforts we are engaged in with OSRAM make up yet another component of our commitment to protecting the environment. The broad range of energy-saving lamps available from OSRAM is a perfect fit to our climate initiative,” says Andreas Koch, Environment and Quality Management Director for TUI Germany.
